Technology Overview
Bioprex is an immobilized hyperbranched biocidal coating that kills bacteria on contact. Bacteria are attracted and squeezed to death by high electrostatic forces. Due to immobilization the coating doesn’t leach biocide and no contamination of body fluids can take place.
The patented coating technology consists of three components:
- Coupling agents to fix the coating covalently on a surface
- Hydrophobic hyperbranched polymers to give the coating strength and hydrophobicity to prevent moisture to migrate to the interface.
- A polyamine that can be quaternized with various reagents to obtain contact-killing quaternary ammonium moieties.
Permanent coating
Permanently immobilized biocidal coating
Contact Killing
Kills bacteria on contact, avoids biofilm formation
Non-Leaching
No body fluid contamination
Adaptable
Adaptable properties and applicable to variety of surfaces
Effectivity Results
The Bioprex coating was found effective against a variety of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. In addition, the coating is not influenced by peptides (from saliva).
